I know, I know. We've been reporting on The Hobbit being stuck on movie island with no rescue ship in site for months and months now but it looks as if a deal is close to finally happening between MGM and Warner Brothers regarding the little hariy footed project.Here's the dirt courtesy of the NY Times: After months of negotiation and delay, Warner Brothers and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer are on the verge of an agreement that would allow the director Peter Jackson to begin shooting a two-part version of J. R. R. Tolkien’s “Hobbit†early next year.
Barring further hitches â€" and there have been many, as the studios wrestled with their dual ownership of the project over the last year â€" a financial deal should be in place over the next few days, according to several people who have been involved in the bargaining. They spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing company policies, confidentiality requirements and the delicate nature of the dealings.

That's right, you still have to stare at Jack Black's shocked face on a poster for the next couple of months until Twentieth Century Fox's "Gulliver's Travels" is released. There's not much to this poster, it's just a different viewpoint of Jack Black tied up again. This time we aren't drowning in overload of photoshop, so that makes me feel at least a little bit better.The Rob Letterman directed film centers on travel writer Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) who takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens. The cast for this romping little comedy includes Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet, T.J. Miller and Billy Connolly."Gulliver's Travels" washes up in theaters everywhere on December 22nd.

Once again Ridley Scott isn't exactly getting his way with another project of his. This time it's with the very talked about "Alien" prequel that feels like it's been sitting in development for awhile. The reason for that has to do with 20th Century Fox and Scott's differing viewpoints on the general approach for the film. With Scott's version of the "Alien" prequel, the budget is said to be an estimated $250 million with a pretty solid R rating attached to it. However, Twentieth Century Fox wants none of that. Instead they want to trim down the budget and squeeze the "Alien" prequel down enough to make it into a PG-13 film. Just like I said earlier, differing viewpoints.So what is there to do now? Ridley Scott can be quite stubborn when he wants to be, mainly on how he wants his film to turn out. Then again, Fox could just tell him to hit the bricks with the prequel overall. The script by Jon! Spaights recently got a polish by Damon Lindelof and surely Scott wants to get going with this project sooner rather than later. Now is the hard part with this story, and that's the waiting game.Will Fox cave into Scott's demands, or will something else happens?
