By now, many of you have probably read Adam’s glowing review of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (out in theaters today). In my opinion, Wright is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today and I was eagerly anticipating his adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic book. If nothing else, Wright has created an unforgettable world full of much style and panache that manages to pay heartwarming homage to the video games of (most of) our youths. While I didn’t think it was a “perfect film,” nor as triumphant as Wright’s previous efforts, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is loads of fun and a breath of fresh air at the theaters this summer.
But what did you guys think? Does Michael Cera transcend his awkward-young-adult schtick? Does Mary Elizabeth Winstead steal your heart, as she does Pilgrim’s? Did the fight scenes blow you away or make you yawn? Did the humor send you away in peals of laughter, or grate on your nerves? As always, assume the comments contain SPOILERS.
