The town center of takes it everything. Ben Affleck #1 with the case

After a dominating performance last week due to being the only new release, Resident Evil: Afterlife had plenty of new competition this weekend with four other new releases to contend with. Unfortunately for RE, it didn't have enough legs to fight off the fresh meat.Ben Affleck's The Town broke in and took all the cash making an estimated $23.8 million. The very good crime drama is a big boost for Affleck's directing career and I'm sure his agent's phone is going to be lighting up like a Christmas tree come Monday. The teen comedy Easy A also did good numbers with $18.2 million. I missed this one in theaters but good word of mouth, reviews and teens wanting something new to watch helped propel it to #2. One movie that surprised me and everyone else who saw it was Devil. I had huge reservations about this film because M. Night Stupidface's name was attached to it, but boy was I wrong. Devil i! s a fantastic, well executed thriller and is by far one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long, long time. I'm shocked that the studio isn't marketing the hell out of it. Very impressive movie that deserves more than its opening weekend $12.5 million weekend take.Resident Evil: Afterlife followed it's predecessors 2nd week pattern of dropping big, coming in 4th with $10.1 million. So far it has earned $86 million worldwide with a 5th in the works. The horribly animated Alpha and Omega made $9.2 million. Meh.The rest of the movie really flattened out, earning more more than $3.0 million. Nothing new for September which competes for January as the bitch month when it comes to movies.A pretty crowded next week but Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps will more than likely take the top spot. It's going up against the Kristen Bell comedy You Again, the excellently animated Zack Snyder film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Buried (limited), and the documentary Wai! ting For Superman.Catfish sucks. Just a little FYI.WEEKEND TOP! 10 STUD IO ESTIMATES, September 17 - 19, 2010. 1 The Town $23.8 M 2 Easy A $18.2 M 3 Devil $12.5 M 4 Resident Evil: Afterlife $10.1 M 5 Alpha and Omega $9.2 M 6 Takers $3.0 M 7 The American $2.7 M 8 Inception $2.0 M 9 The Other Guys $2.0 M 10 Machete $1.7 M What did you guys see over the weekend?
