Shocker! The latest Twilight chapter has dominated the box office! The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the ongoing tale of teen angst and stupidity, made $69 million its debut weekend. Well short of the $142 million its predecessor New Moon made showing on 400 fewer screens. But don't worry Twilight fans, I think Summit will still release Breaking Dawn. M. Night Pattycake's The Last Goofybender did better than expected despite the God awful reviews. (I wasn't invited to the screening.) That doesn't surprise me because Americans are drawn to crap in theaters. Look at Grown Ups, that contender for worst of 2010 is still making money. The Last Goofybender, which I'm praying will be the nail in M. Night's career coffin, came in 2nd with $40.6 million. I hope M. Night just goes away. Go on a ten year vacation like I suggested in my review of The Happening. Or fall down a well. Either way, stop making! movies. Even Uwe Boll knew when to take a break.Toy Story 3 dropped to 3rd place in its 3rd week with $30.1 million. All 3's?? Good God, is this a sign of the Toypocalypse? So far Toy Story 3 is a tad shy of $500 million worldwide. Another Pixar homerun. That enormous piece of garbage I mentioned earlier, Grown Ups, continues to infect theaters with its diseased and decaying "comedic" actors. Grown Ups came in 4th place with an estimated $18.5 million, proving that we have not evolved as a human species and that Gene Rodenberry's vision of the future was just an acid trip.Jonah Hill is in the top ten twice. His indie movie Cyrus crept into the 10th spot with $770,000 showing in 77 theaters. Hey, what's with all the number matching today? Next week is the debut of the surprisingly charming Despicable Me. It's going up against the latest chapter of the Predators franchise. Can either film knock Eclipse off its Volturi throne? We'll have to wait and see.Along with the rest of ! the staff here at Latinoreview I want to wish you all a happy ! 4th of J uly. Please be safe and DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
