The “Resident Evil†movie franchise will never die. Every time somebody believes it is deadâ€"it resurrects itself to be something bigger and crazier than before.
Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems announced the release date for “Resident Evil 5†to hit theaters on September 14, 2012. The last three “Resident Evil†films were all released in the month of September.
The latest film “Resident Evil: Afterlife†garnered over $296 million worldwide. The film concluded with Alice and her companions rescued a bunch of survivors on a cargo ship off the coast of Los Angeles.
It is expected for actress Milla Jovovich to return to play Alice and possibly with her husband-director Paul W.S. Anderson to be involved in some production role. It is not known if any of the other characters will be returning for the fifth film.
The films are based on the popular video game series from Capcom. However, the film franchise operates independently from the video game storylines and introduces some popular video game characters in certain films.
There are potential video game characters that have yet to be introduced in the film franchise including Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong or even Sheva Alomar.
So what crazy scheme the Umbrella Corporation may create this time? Are they trying to create a newer virus to make these zombies tougher? Will Alice head to Europe, Africa or outer space to destroy the Umbrella Corporation once and for all? Or maybe Screen Gems may just surprise us and announce a reboot of the entire franchise.
