Sony Pictures will be deciding soon on the director of the high profile 3D âCleopatraâ film starring Angelina Jolie.
According to Deadlineâs unnamed sources, the choice may be director Paul Greengrass.
Greengrassâ previous projects included the two most recent âBourneâ films, âGreen Zone,â and âUnited 93.â
The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Stacy Schiffâs biography called, âCleopatra: A Life.â In an Amazon.com description, Schiff portrayed Cleopatra as a âshrewd power broker who knew how to use her manifold giftsâ"wealth, power, and intelligenceâ"to negotiate advantageous political deals and military alliances.â
âIt is a completely revisionist Cleopatra, a much more grown-up sophisticated version,â said producer Scott Rudin to Deadline. âSheâs not a sex kitten, sheâs a politician, strategist, warrior. In the Joseph Mankiewicz movie, Elizabeth Taylor is a seductress, but the histories of Cleopatra have been written by men. This is a first to be written by a woman.â
According to Deadline, Sony is hoping the start date will be this year and the project âwonât be cheap.â
The rumor of Paul Greengrass is not a bad choice. However, if this is a different Cleopatra story since it is written by a womanâ"shouldnât it be directed by a woman too? May I suggest Kathryn Bigelow?
