Itâs another quiet weekend at the box office in January.
âNo Strings Attachedâ premiered and took the top position in the weekend box office. The film starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher is a romantic comedy about a couple trying to keep their relationship about casual sex. The film earned an estimated $20.3 million on 3,018 screens. It was also the only wide-release film to premiere this weekend.
Last weekâs top earner âThe Green Hornet,â earned $18.1 million, a drop of 46 percent from the previous week. It is the first superhero movie for this year and is starring Seth Rogen and Jay Chou.
âThe Dilemma,â dropped one spot to third place with $9.7 million, a drop of 45.4 percent from the previous weekend.
And award-quality films of âThe Kingâs Speechâ and âTrue Gritâ still remained in the top five for the box office weekend. âThe Kingâs Speechâ is holding its own with $9.16 million, nearly matching last weekendâs gross with only a 0.2 percent drop. And âTrue Grit,â took fifth place at $8 million.
For the next weekend, it will premiere new films including âThe Rite,â âThe Mechanic,â and âPrada to Nada.â
âThe Riteâ is inspired by true events, which is about the training of exorcists in the Vatican. CBS Films will release the remake âThe Mechanicâ starring Jason Statham. It is the remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson action thriller.
âPrada to Nadaâ is based on Jane Austenâs âSense and Sensibility,â but with a Latina spin to it. The film is starring Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega and Wilmer Valderrama.
