Does Paul Greengrass want direct T It âCléopâtre? â

Sony Pictures will be deciding soon on the director of the high profile 3D “Cleopatra” film starring Angelina Jolie.

According to Deadline’s unnamed sources, the choice may be director Paul Greengrass.

Greengrass’ previous projects included the two most recent “Bourne” films, “Green Zone,” and “United 93.”

The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Stacy Schiff’s biography called, “Cleopatra: A Life.” In an Amazon.com description, Schiff portrayed Cleopatra as a “shrewd power broker who knew how to use her manifold giftsâ€"wealth, power, and intelligenceâ€"to negotiate advantageous political deals and military alliances.”

“It is a completely revisionist Cleopatra, a much more grown-up sophisticated version,” said producer Scott Rudin to Deadline. “She’s not a sex kitten, she’s a politician, strategist, warrior. In the Joseph Mankiewicz movie, Elizabeth Taylor is a seductress, but the histories of Cleopatra have been written by men. This is a first to be written by a woman.”

According to Deadline, Sony is hoping the start date will be this year and the project “won’t be cheap.”

The rumor of Paul Greengrass is not a bad choice. However, if this is a different Cleopatra story since it is written by a womanâ€"shouldn’t it be directed by a woman too? May I suggest Kathryn Bigelow?
