âTop Gun 2 âis set, in order ton start; Tom Cruise, in order ton of CUTs the slight role

A new team of pilots are ready to take it to the skies again with “Top Gun 2," but with the veteran filmmakers from the first movie.

As reported in Vulture, Paramount Pictures has made offers to both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott. The studio also has scriptwriter Christopher McQuarrie to update the script.

At a press junket last June for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” Bruckheimer stated that he was approached about a certain sequel and noted that “the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago.”

For Tom Cruise fans, he will play a smaller role in the movie rather than the main character. He will definitely return as Maverick.

Vulture also reported that “[McQuarrie] found a way to incorporate Maverick, and what’s more, we hear that Cruise has agreed to take a smaller role in the film, provided it’s not too ‘obvious.’”

The obvious rumored part is Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell to be a Top Gun flight instructor.

A lot of things have changed since 1986 with “Top Gun.” The famous Top Gun flying school moved from San Diego to the Fallon Naval Air Station near Reno in 1996. The marines moved into the base in San Diego and renamed it Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in 1999. Actor Cruise jumped on Oprah’s couch to profess his love for Katie Holmes in 2005. In 2008, the famous San Diego’s Kansas City BBQ restaurant that was known for the piano scene was burned to the ground. And in 2010, Val Kilmer actually considered running for governor of New Mexico. Yes, times have changed.
