Doctor Who and McLovin connect the casting the fear night

Two more ahve joined the cast of the remake of Fright Night (one of my favorite horror movies growing up), the movie about a boy who thinks his neighbor is a vampire and seeks the help of a horror television host to rid his neighborhood of the threat.Least that's what the original was about. This new one replaces the old horror host (originally played by Roddy McDowell) with a sort of Chriss Angel type rock and roll dude to be played by Doctor Who's David Tennant. The role of Charlie friend "Evil" Ed Thompson will be played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.THR has the exclusive:David Tennant, best known for starring in the BBC series “Doctor Who,” and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 film.

Tennant and Mintz-Plasse join Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette is the teen’s disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire’s spell.

Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven.

He has to rescue his mom? No girlfriend like in the original? I don't understand casting and direction they're going with for this remake.
