Fox 2000 acquires rights tons adapt `the Delirium

Which will be the next young-adult film franchise?

Fox 2000 signed a development deal with book company Paper Lantern Lit., which included the rights to Lauren Oliver’s second novel “Delirium.”

“We know there’s a hug, really aggressive audience in young moviegoers. I think the trend right now is to look at things that are created for them,” said Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler to Variety.

The deal will also allow Fox 2000 to develop and produce more young adult novels from Oliver and Paper Lantern’s authors.

Here is the book’s synopsis:

“Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once loveâ€"the deliriaâ€"blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold.

“Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Haloway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable and happy.

“But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: she falls in love.”

“Delirium” has hit number six on the New York Times’ children’s chapter bestseller list. Oliver’s first book “Before I Fall” was also optioned by Fox 2000.
