Disney’s Snow White film is trying to move forward.

Oscar nominee scriptwriter Michael Arndt (“Toy Story 3”) is in negotiations with Disney to write the script for “Snow and the Seven.” He won the Oscar for “Little Miss Sunshine” screenplay in 2006.

This version of the Snow White tale will be set in the 19th century China. The story is about an Englishwoman returning to Hong Kong for her father’s funeral, but her evil stepmother had certain diabolical plans against her. She escaped into the countryside of China and took refuge with a band of seven international warriors.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Natalie Portman was previously attached to the project. The article also mentioned that “her pregnancy now raises questions of whether she will be ready to undertake such a physically intense tentpole, which will feature several different fighting styles.”

Disney has Francis Lawrence to direct the film.
