Disney destroys âthe yellow âsubmarines off Zemeckis

There aren't too many people who were looking forward to Robert Zemeckis' motion capture animated rendition of The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine." Actually, was there anybody? Whoever they were, those people must be very disappointed with the news that just broke a couple of hours ago. This past weekend Walt Disney Animation Studio released "Mars Needs Moms," a $150 million dollar budgeted project that bombed, only scraping in $6.8 million. What did Disney decide to do after that? They told Zemeckis to hit the road with his "Yellow Submarine" film. The project was already crawling towards production, boasting a cast that included Cary Elwes, Peter Serafinowicz, Dean Lennox Kelly and Adam Campbell. It's not like the cast and crew wasn't in place, though the project was said to be already encountering problems. One of them happened to be the budget (go figure) along with consis! tently delaying a presentation to the Beatles heirs. On top of that, there is no set release date at the moment for "Yellow Submarine." So Disney definitely wasn't too knee deep in production with "Yellow Submarine" to screw themselves over by shooing the project off entirely. What will Zemeckis do now that "Yellow Submarine" is out of Disney's hands? He has the option to either shop it to another studio or just let the project die entirely. Honestly, motion capture animation works in some instances (which do include "Avatar") but then there's some films where it just looks downright scary ("A Christmas Carol").Do you think Zemeckis should continue trying to make his own version of "Yellow Submarine"?Source: Heat Vision Blog
