Idris Iceland off Elba speaks more over the Rahmendaltonienne discussion into `the Thor

A black Nordic god? Why not?

A debate has erupted amongst the comic book community on whether it was wrong to cast a black man to play a Nordic god in the upcoming comic book film “Thor.”

“It’s so ridiculous,” he said at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. “We have a man [Thor] who has a flying hammer and wears horns on his head. And yet me being an actor of African descent playing a Norse god is unbelievable? I mean, Cleopatra was played by Elizabeth Taylor, and Gandhi was played by Ben Kingsley.”

Elba will play Heimdall, the brother of the warrior Sif. According to Marvel Wiki, he is the guardian of Asgard’s Rainbow Bridge, defending the city’s gates from any intruders, and one of the most trusted servants of Odin.

Sif is played by white actress Jaimie Alexander.

Elba is an accomplished English actor. His long list of film credits included “Takers,” “The Losers,” “The Unborn,” and “RocknRolla.”

His quote was included into The Hollywood Reporter’s special report on colorblind casting and the shrinking roles for African-American actors before this today’s NAACP Image Awards.

“Thor” is directed by Kenneth Branagh. It also stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Skarsgard, Rene Russo and Tom Hiddleston.

The film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and will be in theaters on May 6 this year.

Personally, I didn’t really notice it or thought about it. All I care about is on whether “Thor” will be a good movie.
